Fans pay tribute to idol, Winehouse

25 Jul

After the shocking death of singer Amy Winehouse on Saturday, fans have left thousands of tributes outside her Camden flat. Flower, fags and alcohol have been left on the 27-year-old ‘Back to Black’ singer’s doorstep, where she lived through her battle with booze and drugs. Many heartfelt messages lay amongst the items, with one reading, “Too fragile, too beautiful, too big a talent for this world”.

The star’s addiction was never a secret, but fans stuck by her and willed her to one day get enough help to finalise her rehab. The death of Winehouse still comes as a shock to her thousands of adoring fans who gathered and mourned their loss yesterday in North London.

Many celebrities also took to the popular social networking site Twitter to express their devastation and anguish. Pop star Jessie J wrote, “Tears are streaming down my face. Such a loss.”

After hearing the news, Amy’s father Mitch flew straight back from New York. He greeted mourners yesterday, and told them, “this means so much to our family.” A family statement read, “We have been left bereft by her death. She leaves a gaping hole in our lives. We are coming together to remember her and we would appreciate some privacy and space at this terrible time.”

The death is being treated as “unexplained” and the post-mortem of the body will be carried out this week, meaning that the funeral was unable to be held yesterday, going against the Jewish religion of Amy’s family.
